For about 100 years now, local communities in Kenya have been involved in decisions on forestry and increasing food production.

One of that significant ones has been the ‘Shamba System’ or the Plantations Establishment for Livelihood Scheme (PELIS). The locals work jointly with the Kenya Forest Service to tend to forests while cultivating food crops in these forests. But is Kenya ready to reintroduce the Shamba System for the third time now?
