Are you an investigative journalist from Burundi or DRC passionate about uncovering the truth and making an impact through your stories on Africa’s Great Lakes region ? Through its partnership with Ukweli Coalition Media Hub, Africa Uncensored is organizing a workshop on investigative journalism that will take place in Nairobi at the end of July 2024. We invite you to apply for an exclusive investigative journalism workshop designed to hone your skills, expand your network, and provide you with the tools needed to pursue impactful stories.
Workshop Details:
Dates: 29th of July to 2nd of August 2024
Location: Nairobi
Application Deadline: 25th of June 2024.
The workshop includes:
- Intensive training sessions led by experienced investigative journalists and industry experts.
- Hands-on workshops covering advanced investigative techniques.
- Opportunities to collaborate and network with fellow journalists from diverse backgrounds.
- Personalized mentorship and feedback on your ongoing projects.
The workshop will be in French and English.
Grant Opportunity
Participants who successfully complete the workshop will be eligible to apply for grants with a maximum of 1000 euros/story to support their investigative projects. These grants are intended to provide financial assistance to cover expenses such as travel, research, and reporting costs, enabling you to bring important stories to light.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify you need to:
- Either be a professional journalist with a demonstrated interest in investigative or watchdog journalism, or a freelancer or staff journalist working for print, broadcast, or online media outlets.
- Have a strong command of journalistic ethics and a commitment to integrity in reporting.
- Be able to communicate effectively in English and/or French.
- Have a proposal for an investigative story that you wish to develop further.

- Work Samples (up to three) showcasing your best work.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of experienced journalists and industry professionals. Selected participants will be notified by email at the end of June.
