The prickly pear cactus, scientifically known as Opuntia Stricta, has been the bane of pastoralist communities in Laikipia County.

The invasive plant, believed to be a colonial misadventure, has purplish succulent fruits that livestock feed on. In the process, they ingest the spikes on the cactus, which cause injuries and ultimately death of some of the animals. The Twala Tenebo Women’s Group in Doldol, has however, found a way to turn the cactus invasion into innovation.
