The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in collaboration with media organizations like BuzzFeed News, Africa Uncensored and others across the globe, has been investigating a leak of banking records flagged as suspicious financial activity reported to the United States government for investigation.
An analysis of the files submitted by some of the world’s largest banks to the US Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), reveals that several Kenyan entities – companies and individuals – are part of the more than USD 2 trillion in suspicious transactions unearthed in the year-long investigation.
