On January 21st, 2017, with mounting pressure from the international community and regional body ECOWAS, Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh announced on state television that he was stepping down.

He later left the country on the same day paving the way for the ascendance of Adama Barrow who had beat him in the 2016 elections. For millions of Gambians who had suffered under Jammeh’s rule, thus began the long journey towards getting closure on the unfortunate events of his 22-year iron-fist rule of the tiny West African nation. How is the reconciliation process coming along? Africa Uncensored’s Elijah Kanyi was in the Gambia recently and this is what he found out.
