Boni Forest, located in Lamu County along the Kenya-Somalia border, has become synonymous with the Somali militant group Al-Shabaab, but the Boni people, also known as the Aweer, call it home. Due to the high level of insecurity in the area, residents are cut off from essential services, including healthcare and education. One such resident is Esha Sulo, whose education was cut short after militants attacked her school, and who lost her twin babies to stillbirth due to the lack of healthcare facilities in the area.
