Call for Applications: Trainers for a Training and Mentorship Program offered by Africa Uncensored and Partners

Africa Uncensored, an independent media house dedicated to investigative journalism in Africa, is seeking experienced trainers to facilitate an upcoming 3-month training and mentorship program on investigative journalism.

The training and mentorship program aims to deepen the capacity and foster solidarity among investigative journalists in the East African region.

The training will include but will not be limited to the fundamentals of investigative journalism, data journalism, open source investigations (OSINT), fact-checking, budgeting, security and ethics.

The program covers journalists from Tanzania and Uganda. However, persons who qualify to be trainers can be from any part of the globe.

Scope of Work

The training will be conducted virtually using a combination of contextual analysis, research tools and other open-source investigative tools to enable and encourage participatory sessions.

Expected outcomes

  1. Deepened knowledge and capacity of investigative journalists to report on issues of public interest in their country of residence.
  2. Enhanced collaboration and solidarity among the mentee journalists (a critical mass of journalists) to produce impactful stories.
  3. Quality, well-researched stories published.

Qualifications

  • Full English language proficiency as all the deliverables – training and mentorship materials, reports, etc – will be in English 
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism/mass communication, international development or other relevant subject. A relevant masters degree is an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience at the national or international level in the following fields: mass communication, editorial roles, reporting. 
  • Key competencies: Ability to work in a team, analytical writing, excellent communication skills and journalistic strategic thinking.
