More than five million acres of land have been taken away from their original inhabitants since Kenya’s independence. But losing land is not just about losing the land itself, it’s also about losing a sense of belonging and identity. This is the case for the families of the late Ndurere Muhunyo and the late Benjamin Ithinyai.
The two were gifted a piece of land spanning 303 acres by their employer Fabian Wallis in Nyandarua County, but were evicted from the land in 1971 by the then former GSU commandant and, later, Police Commissioner Ben Gethi.
In the second episode of ‘Title Deals’, Africa Uncensored’s Joy Kirigia takes us deep into this land dispute and an enduring quest for justice that stretches over half a century.
