My Father’s Land tells the story of families in Kihoto, Naivasha, whose homes, farms and livelihoods are being swallowed by the rising waters of Lake Naivasha. For Joyce Ndegwa, the land was inherited from her father, who was among the early families to settle in Kihoto. She built her home, farmed the land and invested in rental houses, until the water came, forcing her to leave and become a tenant elsewhere. But beneath the rising waters lies a deeper question: who owns the land the lake is reclaiming? While residents point to title deeds, government approvals and years of official recognition, authorities maintain that parts of Kihoto lie within the lake’s riparian reserve. Produced by Moige William, #MyFathersLand explores the history, the contested boundaries and the human cost of a crisis that has left families watching their inheritance disappear beneath the water.
