The Elephant publisher John Githongo hosts Dr Adia Benton in the latest round of conversations with distinguished academics and prominent scholars centred around the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Benton is an Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Northwestern University. She is the author of the award-winning book, ‘HIV Exceptionalism: Development Through Disease in Sierra Leone’ (University of Minnesota, 2015), that explores the treatment of AIDS as an exceptional disease and the recognition and care that this takes away from other diseases and public health challenges in poor countries.
