For human rights lawyer Willie Kimani, June 23rd 2016 was a day like any other in his line of duty. He had just represented his client, Josphat Mwenda at the Mavoko Law Courts. As fate would have it, it would be the last day he would be seen alive. Kimani, Mwenda and their taxi driver, Joseph Muiruri, were found dead days later, shaking the country’s legal fraternity to its core. Hundreds of miles from Nairobi, where Kimani was based, in Northern Kenya, disappearances and, later on, reported killings, are common.
