The Elephant publisher John Githongo talks to Prof Attiya Waris and Dr Mary Nyamongo on matters COVID-19, the responses to the pandemic by governments on the continent, mitigation measures put in place as well as the role of those in academia in battling the pandemic.
Prof Waris is the Director of Research and Enterprise at the University of Nairobi and is the only Professor of Fiscal Law and Policy in Eastern Africa. She holds a PhD in Law and is a specialist in Fiscal Law, Policy and Development.
Dr Mary Nyamongo is the co-founder and Executive Director of the African Institute for Health and Development (AHD). She also serves on the Global Coordination Mechanism on the Prevention and Control of NCDs, a World Health Organization (WHO) platform founded in 2014 to help counteract the growing global health threat of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
