Africa Uncensored (AUC), an independent investigative media house, invites experienced media professionals and subject matter experts to apply as trainers for the 2025 edition of the Investigate 101-2 Training Program.
This initiative is part of Africa Uncensored’s project under ForumCiv’s Wajibu Wetu Programme (Journalism for Democracy), which seeks to foster democratic accountability, amplify marginalized voices, and promote social justice in Kenya through impactful investigative journalism.
About the Program
The Investigate 101-2 Training Program empowers early-career journalists by building their capacity in investigative journalism, ethical reporting, and community-centered storytelling. Through structured mentorship and collaboration with experienced media professionals, the program strengthens connections between participants and both digital and legacy media outlets. It also supports the development and dissemination of impactful, well-researched investigative stories that highlight issues of public interest. By equipping journalists with the tools needed for civic engagement, the program contributes to advancing public accountability and promoting long-term media sustainability
Trainer Responsibilities
Selected trainers will:
- Design and deliver engaging, hands-on sessions based on your area of expertise
- Facilitate group discussions, case studies, and real-world investigative walkthroughs
- Offer practical tools, frameworks, and resources for impactful reporting
- Provide post-training mentorship (where applicable) to guide trainees through story development.
Key Training Themes
We are looking for facilitators with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Investigative Reporting Fundamentals – Techniques for identifying, researching, and validating stories
- Open Source and Digital Investigations – Leveraging on tools and online research techniques
- Journalism and Media Ethics
- Safety and Security for Investigative Journalists
- Fundamentals of Story Writing
- Producing Stories for Multiple Platforms
- Story Pitching and Presentation for Publication
Who Should Apply
